Bird’s Lament
March 29, 2008
This picture is wonderful. It’s self explanatory. Eccentricity made person. A viking in the 6th avenue. A street musician amongst posh people who can’t realise there’s something more than sheer eccentricity beyond this look. Indeed, there’s so much in this creature called Louis Hardin: Moondog. He became a real icon for the avant-garde music from the 60s… He invented some original instruments, wrote poetry, and played and sang in the crowded streets of New York. Beside it, he went blind in his teens and endured to dress up as a viking every day to wander through the streets for… 20 years! Moondog. No comparisons admitted. He was unique and his music is now being reedited for those music geeks who always seek for something different and surprising. For the most demanding listeners.

Here is my web site in french about Moondog : http://minisym.wordpress.com
